Light My Fire

Every
now and again a record comes along that sends shivers up your
spine. Now while we freely admit that Byron possesses one of
the best voices around this in no way makes us biased. Starts
with a long intro (perfect for mixing) introducing a filtered
sample before chorused vox enters the fray, breaksdown and there
it is, that voice, majestic, along with a repetitive horn. At
the break the horn kicks in, nice, before the voice returns
again and a nice mix out.
Flip it over and we get a dub, more of the same groove but with
a repeated piano riff and horn stabs + some vox snippets and
now a little organ riff, the instrumental is the same but with
no vox, don't miss it, top class.

The Light
Label
US Soulfuric
Soulfuric
are one top label turning class tunes out time after time, and
this is another one of them. Solid intro groove gives way to
some electric piano before the funky ass bass and plucked guitar
start. Breaksdown with some synth and Michelle's spoken word
before the full vocal starts, this keeps on to another breakdown
followed by some more vox and solid outro.
On the flip it's more a groove, top bassline over a solid rhythm
track and repeated stabs, breaksdown and comes back with a plucked
guitar sample and the occasional vox.

Inside My Soul
Label
US MoreHouse
Starts
with a good solid rhythm track before the piano riff starts
followed by funky ass bass and horn and a cool male vocal. The
nice laid back vocal performance keeps it nicely understated
repeating "inside my soul". Short synth solo follows
before it all starts back again, breaksdown a couple of more
times, has a bit of horn, it's a good groove really.
Flip is more of the same without the full vocal and instead
introducing a "keep it funky" line and a pumping bassline.
Reprise mix does what it says on the tin but with a long beatless
intro

Trax
More
Soulfuric, this time the trax offshoot. Solid rhythm track starts
it off with a smooth pad underneath, in comes some keyz and
the bassline, breaksdown and introduces a repeated guitar line
before it kicks back and the male vocal starts. Goes to a long
breakdown with repeated vox, efx and keys before it slowly builds
back up and kicks back in to a long instrumental that lasts
until the end (good mixing runout).
Flip side is a completely different groove, bristling hats and
filtered keyz and vox samples. Breaksdown to a guitar sample
and keyz and kicks back into more of the same, breaksdown again
and yet more of the same, turn it up loud, sounds great and
is guaranteed to keep the floor going.

Another
labour of love from MAW, using lots of the original guitar,
horns and chorused vocals but over a kicking beat before Maurice's
distinctive vocals start, a classic top vocal performance don't
you know, the groove is beefed up for the chorus before the
vocal refrains and chorused vocals take it to the outro, superb.
Lets Groove starts with a hi-hat, pad and vocal, no beats before
a straight 4 to the floor starts and then most of the original
stuff kicks in with a vocal refrain (no lead) more an instrumental
really but it still works.

For You
Label
US Aurei
Starts with solid beats and a piano riff, then the bass kicks
in leading to Michael's distinctive vocal, they introduce
some more stuff keys, guitars and things and all the time
Michael and his chorus keep going. Breaksdown to the outro
where they prompt you to put your hand up in the air, go on
then! Reprise is more of the same with a very long beatless
intro.
